On August 5th, the kenya Exiles will be travelling to memphis, TN to try and cap out the year in style. The side will be looking to impress with their famous flambouyance and style of play.

Cape Fear Sevens Tourney Summary

This years Cape Fear tournament did not disappoint as over 24 teams slotted there names into the draw basket Friday evening to determine their schedules for the weekend. 8 teams in the social, 8 in the open and 8 teams in the main cup. The tournament continues to grow as evidenced by the increased competitiveness and broad range of teams it pulls each year. This years tourney saw 2 new debutants, the Bahamas and an England University All-Star side that eventually went up against Northern Virginia (NOVA) in the Men's Open final to clinch the main cup and of course some of the usual suspects.

Kenya Exiles II played in the open division and registered 2 wins against Fort Bragg and Virginia RFC respectively and one loss which was enough to get them through to the quarters where they faced Gladiators. This was by far their best game as they held the Gladiators to a 4 minutes defensive stronghold in their 22 and denied them the try for a 14-10 victory. In the semis the went up against “Old toe de Rosa???(for the second time in the 2 day tournament) who proved too strong in the second half forcing the Kenyans out of the tournament by a score of 21-0.

In the main cup Kenya Exiles 1 went up against Cape Fear whom they dealt a 31-0 win and Washington Widgets who managed 7 points to our 45. This set up a date with England University All Stars fpr the last match of pool play of the day.This seemed to be a level of rudge ahead of everyone else. There size and speed was more than the boys bargained for and succumbed a 42-0 loss. This positioned Kenya I as a second seed for the quarters on day 2. In the quarters, Kenya 1 faced a persistent Bahamas who edged them 14-12 in a close finish.

In the main cup final NOVA was able to touch down the first try of the weekend against this English side to take a 5-0 lead into the half time break. However, the English side took complete control in the second half and coasted to another easy victory. When the final whistle blew the score was England University All-Stars 26, NOVA 5.

Team 1: Leslie Mango, Tony Ongoro, Eddie Odhiambo, Eric Kiarie, Ishmael Olewe, Jerry Ogallo, Richard Kanda, Nick Olewe, Chris Kombo , Caleb Langat and Misha Okutoi.

Team 2: George Mokuasi, Clyde Owino, Alex Muriuki , Ernest Waweru, Brian Ngusale, Edward Omuse, Dennis Wesonga, Tom Ojulu and Kaki Muniafu.

Next stop is Memphis, Tennessee for the Elvis 7’s on August 5th. Come support the team.

kenya Exiles Rugby is pleased to announce the new board that will be incharge off carrying the exiles rugby organization to newer heights.
Director - Head of Marketing Committee - Thomas Walgwe. Committee will be stearheaded by long serving rugby stalwart Kaki Muniafu.
Director - Head of Social Committee - Ger Mijoro. Committee will be led by George Mukuasi.
Treasurer - Eric Mpesha
Secretary - Kaki Muniafu
Player representative - Ishmael Olewe

Severn River Report

Tournament started at 9am and was delayed by rain and team cancellations. Tournament structure was round robin between 5 teams and best two play for championship. First game was against Maryland Exiles. They hit first with a quick try but we replied with three of our own to secure a win with a final score of 28-7. Second game was against PAC, a game which we never managed get under control and lost badly by 35-7. Third game was against the hosts who posed no problem and we won 28-0. This was good enough to put us in the final to play PAC for the second time on the day. Both teams came out strong but PAC struck first in the corner following kickoff . Kenya replied with immediately via Richard Mulaha who showed his opposing winger a clean pair of cleats. After the half, PAC once again came out firing and hit first with a converted try. Tactical substitution saw Nick Olewe come in on the wing and have an immediate impact getting on the scoring board. We however were down by a conversion and trailed by 2 points. Referee tagged Kenya with several penalties citing “dangerous??? tackles and time was not on Kenya’s side on this afternoon as the game ended 12-10 to PAC. After the game it was clearly evident by the players demeanor that they were dissapointed by the loss.As Captain Ishmael olewe put it " The games are officially over and its time for serious rugby". The next tournament is the big one of the year - Cape fear Sevens in wilmington, North Carolina - tourney will feature, barbados national team, england universities side,super league champs Ombac,fijians select from Atlanta and many more.
